Who is Albert Hurtado?

My story begins like many others: at university, studying a degree in Chemistry.

My plans for the future were simple, I would end up my studies and start working in the chemical industry, just as I’ve always wanted. However, two things happened to me that changed my life

  • I was way more interested in Genetics and Cellular Processes than in Chemistry
  • Working in the chemical industry let me down

The first point was easy to solve, I just had to redirect my studies, so I would finally graduate in Biochemistry.

The second one was a bit riskier. I left a job that would only give me money and I made up my mind to go back to university, where I redirected my career and undertook a doctoral research programme. In 2009 I presented a thesis on Food Microbiology and Fermented Pickles and got my PhD in Biochemistry.

While I was studying my PhD, I created my first company: GoodNoni. A business to import noni juice (a tropical fruit that has several health benefits) that is still active today. In fact, if you’re interesting in learning more about this business or about the properties of noni juice, I invite you to this website

As you can well image, GoodNoni will always keep a special meaning for me since it was my debut as an entrepreneur. And so will Propol-mel, the second business I created: an industry specialized in 100% natural and holistic propolis products and that was the result of an acquisition of a previous business by a beekeeper who wanted to engage in other projects. This is our website: https://beeorganicpropolis.com

I know, you’re now thinking that 2010 was one of the best years of my life. After all, I got my PhD and two successfully running businesses. And the truth is you’re right, 2010 was awesome. It was also the year I got married to the most wonderful woman. But that doesn’t mean my story ends here. Nope, that wasn’t the end of my journey as an entrepreneur and a career trainer.

In fact, when I finished my PhD I remained linked to the Rovira i Virgili University for some years.

Teaching and transferring knowledge are two of my greatest passions. So after getting a job as Associate Professor at the above university, I spent six years teaching different practice courses as well as two BA subjects on Nutrition and Dietetics.

This teaching experience was precisely the one that led me to study a Master in Educational Innovation. During that time, I also got interested in the stock market so I took a specialized training on Trading Futures and Speculation in the Stock Market. It was at the online academy Traders International. Later on, and thanks to the confidence the managers of that academy placed in me, I spent several years training future traders there.

Training and teaching people are two of my three best skills.

The third one is entrepreneurship

For that reason, in 2015 I left my job at the university and launched Prokey Drinks, a project that was created from scratch and whose aim was the industrial production of water kefir; I wanted to make water kefir available at supermarkets. My knowledge about microbiology and enology were undoubtly crucial to develop the starting culture and the industrial process required by the business, but my experience as entrepreneur was decisive too.

But wait a minute. You may think that the only profitable businesses in the world today are those related to health, food or fitness. They are just three fields I really enjoy, which have potential to grow and where there’s much work left to do.

That’s why the companies I’ve created belong to the wellness sector.

But it doesn’t mean that the work I’ve already done is different from the work any other sector requires.

In fact, Prokey Drinks is a typical start-up and it has undergone the same process of business creation as any other company: from attending different entrepreneurship competitions to the creation, distribution and consolidation of the brand and of its commercial structure.

It has also won several competitions and has public and private funding

Those data alone are already quite positive, but the trajectory of Prokey Drinks doesn’t end here: a large Spanish food company got interested in acquiring it. And, counting my chickens before they hatched, that led me to start another project from scratch: Snadi, new functional energy bars for all those who need a nutritional boost that cannot be found in current food options.

Snadi was supposed to be released by crowdfunding on 23 April, 2019. But before that date, the large company that would acquire Prokey Drinks also got interested in this project. In the end, that company didn’t acquire any of the companies. But far from considering it a failure in my entrepreneurial career, it has let me resume the development of these new bars that will be soon released to the market.

I have told you before that Snadi Bars is a project created from scratch, which means, these are some of the issues I have been working on: branding, market analysis and research, development of unique formulations with first quality ingredients, product launch, etc.

That was the same formula I used in 2019 to create Siil, a retail brand specifically designed for alopecia that is succeeding in making men and women stop losing hair while helping thousands of people understand hair loss and how to put an end to it.

Do you remember I told you I love teaching and sharing knowledge?

The information I share on Siil’s website is just an example of that; I’ve created most of it. [In Spanish]

There are other examples like this podcast with Óscar Feito where I talk about how to launch a project from scratch and with a tight budget. Or this other podcast with Eduard Pascual and David Tomás (the creators of Lunes Inspiradores) where we chat about entrepreneurship. [Both in Spanish]

Building several online business is not a piece of cake, on the contrary, is a tough journey where determination and hard work must be present. And where you constantly learn from your errors. In fact, I do know the meaning of failure, as it was the case of “Futuros y Bolsa” (a company that didn’t make it due to a poor synchronization and management by its partners) or Kiniro Test (an attempt to create a Spanish-speaking online community to talk and share about cosmetics).

Far from making me throw in the towel and become a salaried worker again, these experiences have served me to have a clearer view to success in business.

Some more stuff about me:

But I’m no superhero who makes extraordinary things. Surely your daily life is pretty much the same as mine:

Ops, I almost forget an important thing:

I help entrepreneurs, SME and companies define and launch their projects, products and brands.
